Tokenization - Moving Assets Onchain: Where TradFi and DeFi Meet

Watch Digital Asset's Kelly Mathieson as she represents the Canton Network at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's roundtable on May 12, 2025.

Kelly highlights how tokenization removes the traditional settlement constraints that have limited market innovation: "We are now, for the first time, talking about unleashing ourselves from that binding constraint and knowing what it means to define trading processes, services, assets, and their characteristics that are unbounded by those operating systems."

Other insights from the panel include:

  • The global opportunity is massive: of $225 trillion in marketable securities available for use as collateral, only 11% ($28T) is currently being mobilize
  • Post-trade efficiencies are staggering: with corporate actions costing $400B annually, and $160B in duplicative, manual activities that could be returned to investors

Addressing concerns about ZK-proof vulnerabilities, Kelly advocates for balanced systems: "Access to liquidity with transparency, not without privacy... improves market resiliency."

The Canton Network is leading the way in helping financial institutions realize these efficiencies through secure, compliant tokenization that maintains the critical balance between transparency and privacy.
